The medium of Papermaking is extremely versatile and crosses the traditional boundaries of Fine Art, Craft and Design. As a result of this flexibility, artists can adapt the medium to suit personal requirements and ‘feed’ other areas, such as, printmaking, artists’ books, casting and the making of three-dimensional works. The adaptability of the medium is shown in these gallery images. They present several handmade paper works that have been cast, stitched, cut and printed upon as an integral part of their development, demonstrating the diverse possibilities of the medium as well as the high standard of work which can be produced. Papermaking goes beyond simple, ‘flat’ sheet-formation and is a superb medium for group development as it provides cross-pollination of ideas and outcomes. As an activity which also encourages visual expression and creative experimentation with materials it easily complements the work of Painters, Sculptors, Printmakers and Book Artists as well as those involved in Ceramics, Textiles, Environmental Projects.
